How Phocus Physical Therapy Can Help
Thorough Assessment
Every woman’s body, history, and experience is different. That’s why we start by taking the time to listen. We’ll discuss your symptoms, medical and pregnancy history, daily activities, exercise routine, and the goals that brought you to physical therapy. Your assessment may include evaluating your breathing, posture, core and pelvic floor function, strength, mobility, and movement patterns. When appropriate, an internal pelvic floor examination may also be recommended, but it is never required and is only performed with your informed consent.
Establish Meaningful Goals
Your treatment should support the life you want to live. Whether your goal is to return to exercise after having a baby, stop leaking when you run or jump, have comfortable sex, prepare for childbirth, feel stronger through menopause, or simply move through your day without pain or discomfort, we start by identifying what matters most to you. Together, we create meaningful and realistic goals that guide your plan of care and help you measure progress along the way.
Treat the Root Cause—Not the Symptom
Pelvic floor symptoms rarely exist in isolation. Urinary leakage, pelvic pain, prolapse symptoms, constipation, or core dysfunction may be influenced by how your entire body is functioning. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all exercise program or assuming that every problem requires more Kegels, we look for the factors contributing to your symptoms. By addressing the underlying issues, we can create a treatment plan designed to support lasting change.
Optimize Posture and Movement Patterns
From carrying children and sitting at a desk to lifting weights, running, or getting up and down from the floor, your body moves in countless ways throughout the day. We look at how you breathe, manage pressure, move, and respond to the physical demands of your life. Small changes in movement strategies can sometimes make a significant difference in symptoms while helping you feel stronger and more confident in your body.
Targeted Strength and Mobility Training
Pelvic health is about more than the pelvic floor alone. Your pelvic floor works alongside your diaphragm, abdominal muscles, hips, spine, and the rest of your body. Based on your individual needs, your program may include strength training, mobility work, pelvic floor coordination, breathing strategies, and functional exercise. Whether you're navigating pregnancy, recovering postpartum, managing pelvic symptoms, or working toward a new fitness goal, we'll help you build the strength, mobility, and confidence to get back to doing what you love.
