How Phocus Physical Therapy Can Help
Thorough Assessment
Your symptoms are only one piece of the puzzle. We take the time to understand your complete health history, current concerns, activity level, lifestyle, and goals before developing your treatment plan. Your physical assessment may include evaluating your posture, breathing, core and pelvic floor function, strength, mobility, coordination, and movement patterns. When appropriate, we may also discuss or perform an internal pelvic floor examination—with your consent—to better understand what is contributing to your symptoms.
Establish Meaningful Goals
Physical therapy should be about more than simply reducing symptoms. We work with you to identify what you actually want to get back to doing—whether that's exercising without pain, sitting comfortably at work, sleeping through the night without frequent bathroom trips, returning to sexual activity, or feeling confident after prostate surgery. Your goals guide your treatment so that therapy is relevant to your life and focused on the things that matter most to you.
Treat the Root Cause-Not the Symptom
Pain, urinary changes, bowel dysfunction, or sexual symptoms are often the result of several factors working together. Rather than simply treating the area that hurts or telling you to “do more Kegels,” we look at the bigger picture. We assess how your pelvic floor, core, hips, spine, breathing, and nervous system are working together to identify the underlying contributors to your symptoms. Our goal is to address the root cause so you can build lasting improvements—not just temporarily manage the symptom.
Optimize Posture and Movement Patterns
The way you sit, stand, breathe, lift, exercise, and move throughout the day can influence how your pelvic floor and entire body function. We evaluate your movement patterns and identify areas that may be contributing to pain, pressure, tension, or difficulty with bladder and bowel control. Then, we teach you practical strategies to move and exercise more efficiently without constantly thinking about your pelvic floor.
Targeted Strength and Mobility Training
Your pelvic floor doesn't work in isolation. It works as part of a larger system that includes your abdominal muscles, diaphragm, hips, back, and legs. Your treatment may include targeted strengthening, mobility exercises, breathing strategies, and functional training based on your specific needs. Whether you're recovering from surgery, dealing with pelvic pain, or simply want to perform at your best, we create an individualized exercise program that helps you build strength, improve mobility, and return to the activities you enjoy.
